About Me

I have been involved in woodworking for most of my life. My father was a building contractor in the Portland, Oregon area and I was around a wood shop from an early age. I apprenticed as a carpenter at age 17 and worked in the residential remodeling and custom home industry for decades. I found that I really liked the demanding and exacting nature of cabinetry and furniture building and tried to do as much of that work as I could.

Eventually I took a job at Portland State University as a carpenter and stayed there for the rest of my career. We had a well equipped shop at PSU and I got to do a lot of really interesting custom work. I was constantly challenged to improve and expand my skills and I am still striving to do so.

After retiring from PSU I set up a shop of my own and having done so I now stay busy building furniture and cabinetry for myself and a select clientele. If you are interested in having a custom project designed and/or built, contact me at MDEWOODWORKING@Gmail.com and we'll see if I can help.
